Exercise Sessions

Maintaining physical fitness is considered to be an important factor in dealing with Parkinson’s. And you don’t need to be training for the next Olympics to keep fit!  We offer exercise sessions provided by a trained physiotherapist, Beccy Oliver.  Please follow this link to view some exercises on YouTube which you can carry out in the comfort of your own home.

Bracknell Sessions (For all members)

Following the lifting of the coronavirus restrictions, we have now returned to holding the sessions at our usual venue at Forest Park Community Centre.   Please contact Beccy on 07920 444979 or beccy.oliver@thorpesneurorehab.com to take part in any of these sessions.

  • At 1pm we have a Stretch class with seated and optional standing exercises to maintain strength and range of movement.
  • At 2pm we have a Dynamic class. This is higher intensity to push cardiovascular fitness, range of movement, balance and co-ordination in line with research on the benefits of exercise and Parkinson’s
  • At 3pm we have a Power class which is similar to the Dynamic class but also includes some floor work on mats

These sessions will be held at Forest Park Community Centre every Wednesday of the month (apart from a break for school holidays) at the above times.
The Group is split into three sessions in order to cater for the large number of attendees and differing levels of mobility and so, if you are interested in attending, please register to attend these sessions and provide information about your Parkinson’s symptoms using this online form so that Beccy can assess which group would be best for you.

The fee to attend these sessions is £5 for members of the Bracknell & District Branch and is payable by direct debit at £20 a month in advance.

Sunningdale Sessions (For Newly Diagnosed only or for all members, see below)

Have you been diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the last few years?

Did you know that doing at least three sessions of moderate exercise a week is key to managing your Parkinson’s?

Would you like to learn how to create an exercise programme that can help to keep your symptoms steady as you exercise with others who will encourage and inspire you along the way!

The Bracknell & District Parkinsons UK Branch has an exercise class specifically designed for people newly diagnosed with the condition.

Join us on Monday mornings at Sunningdale Village Hall to learn the theory and practice behind the Parkinson’s specific exercise programmes so you have all the skills you need for the future.

Classes run every Monday morning with two sessions running from 10.45am to 12.45pm including time for tea and socialising between the two sessions.  Classes include:

  • An opportunity to try out the exercises that will push both your body and brain fitness
  • Education on concepts key to Parkinson’s tailored exercise
  • A chance to meet and chat with other people who are newly diagnosed

Led by Rehab Specialist physiotherapist Benny Adeola, the classes use Parkinson’s targeting exercise training regimes based on principles followed by PD Warrior, LSVT BIG, PWR! Moves and others.
