Afternoon Tea-time Treats!

Afternoon Tea-time Treats!

Members of Bracknell & District Parkinson’s Branch recently enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea which was kindly hosted by Wendy Richardson. Owing to the inclement weather, the event was held indoors. Around 30 members had a wonderful time sampling the excellent tea, sandwiches and cakes whilst also enjoying each other’s company.

A special thank you must go to Wendy and her helpers for making the event such a delightful occasion.

Congratulations and many thanks to Mel Sharp for celebrating her 80th birthday by undertaking a daring Zipwire challenge to raise money for our Branch. The zipwire that Mel went on is at Penrhyn Quarry North Wales and is famous for being the world’s fastest with participants travelling at up to 100mph!

That’s a tremendous achievement and we are delighted with such a fantastic result.  The photo shows Mel shortly before the start of her challenge.

Summer Fundraising Events

Summer Fundraising Events

Bracknell & District Parkinson’s Branch recently enjoyed two days’ of fundraising and raising awareness of the Branch and its activities.

Firstly, the splendid sum of £230 was recently raised at the Windlesham Village Fete by holding a bric-a-brac stall. In addition to the fundraising, the event raised awareness of the Bracknell Branch and the services it provides.

Special thanks must go to Wendy Richardson for all the preparation, setting up, and packing away that she did and the other members who kindly volunteered their services on a very hot day!

Then, a few days later, the Branch held a fundraising collection at Oaktree Garden Centre in Warfield. This was the first time the venue had been used and the day went very well with lots of interest from the customers about the Branch and its services and a commendable £245 raised in the process. Thanks to everyone who helped during the day and thanks also to Oaktree Garden Centre for making us feel so welcome.

Bric-a-Brac Bonanza on Coronation Sunday!

Bracknell & District Parkinson’s Branch enjoyed a successful fundraising Sunday with a bric-a-brac stall at the Binfield Parish Council Coronation event held at Farley Wood Community Centre. In addition to raising awareness of Parkinson’s in the local area, the fantastic total of £324 was raised.

Special thanks must go to Wendy Richardson for arranging the stall, collecting the bric-a-brac and even spending the whole day at the event!  Thanks also to our team of enthusiastic helpers on the day: Yvette, Carol, Sheena, Tony, Gordon, Liz, and Will. The photo above shows Branch members Wendy Richardson, left, and Yvette Sowerby with the bric-a-brac stall.

The Branch carries out fundraising to help subsidise activities for its members which help alleviate their condition of Parkinson’s including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and Nordic walking. The funds raised at the Coronation follow a successful collection at Waitrose Bagshot the previous weekend at which a further £450 was raised, and further fundraising events will be held during the year.

Parkinson’s Awareness at Frimley Hospital

Parkinson’s Awareness at Frimley Hospital

Frimley Hospital Parkinson’s Awareness Event

Our branch had an awareness stand at Frimley Hospital to mark World Parkinson’s Day on 11th April. The stand was organised by one of our Parkinson’s Nurses Evphi Kalkantera who is pictured right alongside Will Hague and Wendy Richardson. It was a very useful event and we had a number of very interesting conversations throughout the day.
