New Treasurer

New Treasurer

Dear Member,

I hope all is well.

I thought I would share with you that we have been recruiting for a permanent replacement for our Treasurer.

From the New Year, we will have a new Treasurer, Emily Bryant, and I am sure you would all like to welcome her onto the Committee in such an important role.

By way of introduction, Emily would like to send the following message to you all;

‘Hi Everyone! I’m Emily and I’m excited for this opportunity to work with yourselves as a volunteer Treasurer. I’m currently studying for my accounting qualifications and am looking forward to learning a lot and working towards such a good cause.’

I will endeavour to keep you all posted and, in the meantime, I send you all my best wishes.

Best regards
Nathan

Afternoon Delights

Afternoon Delights

Members of Bracknell & District Parkinson’s Branch recently enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea which was kindly hosted by Wendy.  The weather was gloriously sunny and around 25 members had a wonderful time, sitting outside in Wendy’s lovely garden and enjoying the excellent tea, sandwiches and cakes, and of course each other’s company.

Special thanks must go to Wendy and her helpers for making the event such a success.

Lazy Monday Afternoon

Lazy Monday Afternoon

On the hottest day of the year, on Monday, 12th August, instead of their usual monthly Branch meeting, over 20 members of the local Bracknell & District Parkinson’s Branch gathered at South Hill Park for an informal and light Afternoon Tea.  Relaxing in the shade, they were able to catch up with friends and enjoy their own light refreshments as well as the occasional, very welcome ice-cream and tea and coffee from the excellent South Hill Park cafe.

An enjoyable time was had by all with some new members also attending and getting to know their fellow Branch members.

What a Beaulieu-ful day!

What a Beaulieu-ful day!

On a beautifully sunny day, thirty-five members of Bracknell & District Parkinson’s Branch enjoyed an exciting day at Beaulieu, home to Palace House and the National Motor Museum.

Members were able to visit the exhibits in the National Motor Museum, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as well as the ruins of a 13th century abbey, Victorian gardens, Palace House (Lord Montagu’s ancestral home) and the Clock House with its Art Russe exhibition.  They were also able to take a stroll alongside the peaceful Mill Pond and river Beaulieu.

Some explored on foot, while others took a ride on the classic bus or the monorail which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Everyone enjoyed the delightful day, and thanks must go to Keith and Kathy, the organisers of the trip, for making the event such a success.

Members show off their Boxercise moves!

Members show off their Boxercise moves!

Bracknell & District Parkinson’s Branch recently enjoyed a presentation about Boxercise, a form of non-contact boxing, from Molly Hale and her colleagues from Places Leisure, Wokingham.

The presentation covered the benefits of physical activity for people with Parkinson’s; the benefits of boxercise specifically; what to expect from a boxercise class; boxercise classes at BXG, Wokingham; and how to book and where to park.

Members were invited to get the gloves on and have a go at some of the moves and several took up the opportunity to do so. The session was greatly enjoyed and hopefully we will be able to set up a weekly class for members to go along to and to show their Boxercising skills!
